The Tennant Brothers had a brewery on Market Place, but in the 1850s the Duke of Norfolk required the land to build the new markets. The brewery was given 4 months to move.
The enterprise set up at Exchange Brewery, and continued into the 1980s despite a take over from Whitbreads in 1962.
