Travellers Rest. 141 The Moor

This old Gilmour's pub was a popular spot with service men of all the allied nations during World War 2. It was universally known as Billy Lee's after the landlord of the time.

In the blackout all windows and doors were tightly shut to prevent light showing. It is said that the smoke inside could be cut with a knife. It survived the war, but as the bombed out Moor was redeveloped it succumbed to the developers.
