The Sun Tavern opened in 1780 across the road from the main stagecoach station. It was a hub for news and information and displayed a news sheet named The Sun in its windows..
After changing its name to Old Number 12 in 1833 the pub finally closed in 1955. It is currently used as an amusement arcade.
