The original pub dated back to around 1830, becoming a tied house in 1910 when Wards took over the licence. Ownership passed to Old Albion Brewery in 1915. Old Albion were taken over by Worksop & Retford Breweries in 1939, and they were to become part of Bass Charington.
The original pub was knocked down in the 1950s to allow for road widening, and the current much larger pub was built in its place.
