The Sheaf House opened in 1816, and is still going strong.
The Sheaf House Ground stood to the left and rear of the hotel, and in 1891 Tomlinson's Brewery opened next to that. The Sheaf House was however tied to Stone's Brewery.

The Sheaf House Ground pre-dates Bramhall Lane Ground and was used by both Yorkshire Cricket Club and Sheffield Wednesday in their earlier years.
Being so close to United's ground, the Sheaf House can get very busy on match days.
