The "old" Saddle Inn stood a few yards further up West Street from around 1810. It was a quaint pub that sold Tetley Bitter in its later life. It closed in 1992.
The "new" Saddle is more up front than the old one. It opened in 1993. Quaint it ain't, and it is obvious that you cannot transfer charm simply by transfering the name.
It remains to be seen if it will be as enduring as the old one. I noticed that the licence is up for sale already.
