The Royal Standard was opened in 1845. It was a 3 roomed pub with a full sized snooker table in one room, and Ward's beers on the bar. Much has changed recently due to a massive refurbishment.
It was under threat of demolition for years as plans to widen St Mary's Gate were considered. Eventually the widening involved the other side of the road and the Truro Tavern and Montgomery disappeared instead.
Much of the local housing and business has gone, but the Royal Standard gets very busy when United are at home.
