Dating from the 1820s this hotel was originally known as the Bull's Head. Its name changed to Coach and Horses when the turnpike brough the stage coach around 1850.
It became the Royal Hotel around 1860.
It has belonged to Gilmour, Tetley and others during its lifetime.
