The Red Lion opened in 1825 and was one of more than 2 dozen on this short stretch of Duke Street, between Broad Street and Bernard Street.
The tramway and road widening accounted for almost all these, Parkhill Flats most of the remainder. At least it looks like a pub. That is more than can be said for most of the replacements.
