Pump Tavern. Earl Street

The original Pump Tavern stood on South Street which became known as the Moor. It was sited next door to Whitmarsh & Watson's South Street Brewery for which it was the brewery tap.

The pub fell into the hands of Duncan Gilmour when the brewery was taken over in 1906.

This part of the Moor was badly damaged by air raids in World War 2, the pub itself survived but was demolished in massive clearances that followed.

A replacement pub was built just off the main road and was popular with both shoppers and local factory workers. It was also one of the last pubs in Sheffield to loose its "men only" bar.
