The Prince of Wales was situated at the side of Roper's Brewery, from where it obtained its beers. The brewery changed hands frequently until it ended its life as Wilson Brothers in 1900.
The brewery and its estate were taken over by Whitmarsh & Watson who brewed on The Moor.
The pub did not surive the takeover and was closed by 1902.
