Old Blue Bell. 120 Worksop Road

Within yards of The Don Valley Stadium stand 2 closed pubs. They face one another across Worksop Road, as they have every day since 1825, when they were built.

The rivals were the Old Blue Bell and The White Hart.

The OLd Blue Bell was originally an elegant Duncan Gilmour pub, known simply as The Blue Bell. Its glazed frontage and embelishments a challenge to its nearby rivals. Unusually the frontage had a double entrance into its two main rooms. Those entering the lounge bar did not even have to share a door with the hoy-paloy.

They added Old to its name, but that did not save it from closure around 20 years ago. It became occupied by other users and now opperates as a mosque.
