The North Pole was once an elegant private dwelling known as Riverside Cottage. It dates from around the time of the neighbouring Park Side Brewery, and there may well have been some connection.
It is likely that it became a pub shortly after the turn of the last century, when an expedition first arrived at the North Pole. For many years it was a Gilmour's house before falling into the Teley empire.
As with virtually every other pub in the area, its decline mapped that of the surrounding industries and closed. It is now used as offices.
