When it was built in 1833 this pub was known as the New Inn. It is situated right on Wadsley Bridge and took the full force of the tidal wave after the Dale Dyke Dam burst. The bridge itself was also nearly totally destroyed.
Unlike several others in the area, the pub was rebuilt, and a few years ago had its name changed to New Bridge Inn. The name New Inn can still be seen in a stone carving on the front of the pub.
