New Barrack Tavern. 217 Penistone Road

This old Gilmour's house was built close to the "new" barracks building, hence it was logical that its name should be New Barrack Tavern.

The pub became a Tetley's outlet in 1954 when Gilmour's was taken over, and it continued to be an unremarkable establishment until its closure around 1992.

The closure was only temporary however, and the New Barrack re-opened as a lively emporium of real ale, good food and live music. The successful formula is several tried and tested favourite beers, with an ever changing selection of "guests".

Can get very busy on Saturday nights.
