The term New Inn is always a strange one. Every inn is a new inn when first built, but they quickly become old. This New Inn can claim to be a new inn as it replaced another inn, which was also called the New Inn.
The "old" New Inn was infact a Rawson's house. It comprised of 2 stone built cottages built back to back. It doubled up as both a pub and a sweet shop.
Rawson's Brewery was bombed in 1940 and its tied estate bought by Duncan Gilmour who themselves were taken over by Tetley.
The current building replaced the old many years ago, and even the new building has received a makeover, receiving the front porch in the process.
The distinctive green roof has always been a feature of the new building.
