Masons Arms. Capel Street

Since Capel Street was split by a barrier, the Masons Arms has been cut off and issolated. However it is only 50 yards from the New Barrack Tavern and shares its parking, so this should not be a barrier to trade.

The Masons Arms was originally part of the Owlerton Brewery and appears to have been the brewery tap. It is a later building, however, and was probably added in an expansion whilst the brewery was owned by Cockayne & Co.

The brewery and pub passed through the hands of Allsops of Burton on Trent before sale to John Smith's who closed the brewery in 1913. It was later demolished, only a trace of wall still stands to the left of the pub.
