Golden Ball. 838 Attercliffe Road

The Golden Ball dates from around 1838, but there may have been an earlier beer house on the site.

The pub closed for a time in 1984 only to re-open a year later re-named the Turnpike. This enterprise only lasted 4 years before a fire destroyed the pub. It has now been demolished to make way for the Stadium. Those who are still paying for the Student Games may question whether it was a fair swap.
