George 1V. 216 Infirmary Road

The George 1V opened in 1833 when, you guessed it, King George 1V was on the throne. It has been a John Smith's house for years which suggests that it came into their hands when they took over the local brewers Budd & Cockayne, both of which were only a stones throw from the pub.

The George closed briefly from 1992 until 1994.
