Crown Inn. Hillfoot Road Totley

The Crown is the oldest pub in Totley. It was converted to a beer house in 1727 when the main Sheffield London Road ran past the front door.

In the mid 19th century a new turnpike was built which left the Crown slightly out on a limb, but shortly afterwards it benefited greatly from trade provided by the men building the Totley Railway Tunnel. In between times landlords generally had to supplement their income by working as scythe makers or farmers.
