One of the oldest buildings in Totley; when it became a beerhouse it took its name from the landlords secondary profession as a scythe maker.
In the early years Totley ran at 90 degrees to the current village. The main road to London ran to the left of the pub and up the lane towards Holmesfield.
After being a Tennant's pub for years the Cross Scythes now sells a range of beers from Kelham Island.
