Cross Daggers. 14 Market Square Woodhouse

The Cross Daggers operated as a beer house from 1658, brewing its own beer until Rawson's Pond Street Brewery bought the building early in the 20th century.

Rawsons Brewery was destroyed in an air raid in 1940 and its pubs were sold in 1947 to Gilmours. Gilmour's themselves were taken over by Tetley, and the Cross Daggers became a Tetley house.

When built the pub was a part of a thriving market place with the village stocks outside. In Victorian times it doubled up as the village post office, and a single family held the licence for over 150 years.

In 1969 the Cross Daggers closed and was converted into a restaurant.
