Cross Scythes Inn. 145 Derbyshire Lane

The present building dates from 1939, but the inn dates back much further than that.

Up until the mid 19th century, the main road to London passed by the Cross Scythes. A new turnpike diverted the traffic through Woodseats and Dronfield. What was the Abbey Hotel's gain, was the Cross Scythe's loss, and it had to survive on local trade.

A Tetley pub of long standing.
