The Cricket Inn at Totley was originally a farmhouse and obtained a licence to sell beer when the area was inundated with miners building The Totley Tunnel.
Miners killed during operations were laid out at the Inn and this became particularly busy during the smallpox epedemic that hit the camps.
Originally Hunt's beers were sold, but when Hunt's fell into the hands of Ward's the supply was changed.
The building seen in the background is the long closed Grouse Inn.
