Brown Cow. Mowbray Street

The Brown cow was once a residential hotel. The vast servants quarters being taken over as beer cellars when it became a pub. It has very fine S.H.Ward stained glass windows which have survived various makeovers in the pubs life.

In 1995 it became Morrisey's Riverside, but retained its original character with many small rooms, including a smoke free zone.

It is currently undergoing yet another re-incarnation, and is to reappear as The Riverside. Sadly it appears to be one large room, although the windows remain.

The pub had a famous large goldfish. It lived in the river beneath the back of the pub and turned up regularly for tip bits.

The picture is interesting as one of the old Ward's Brown Cow signs has been uncovered .
