Black Swan. 39 Snig Hill

Known to all in Sheffield as the "Mucky Duck", the Black Swan has existed since the 1770s. It was however blown apart by a German bomb in 1940 and for several years it existed as a bungalow structure with a temporary flat roof.

It was rebuilt in the 1950s and was a famous music venue, where the likes of Joe Cocker plied their trade. In fact Joe Cocker returned recently, but insisted that the door entry price should not be more than it was before he became famous....5p.

It has undergone several name changes, and often the downstairs has gone by a different name from the upstairs. Names such as the Izaac Walton, the Compleat Angler, and inevitably the Mucky Duck.

Now it is known as the Boardwalk, is run by a retired rock musician, and is more famous as a music venue.
