It may not look it, but the Big Gun is one of the oldest pubs in the area. It opened in 1790 and has been a pub ever since. Never mind a pub on every corner, there was a time when nearly every building on Wicker was an ale house or inn.
The pub has also been known as the Great Gun, and no doubt would have derived its name from a massive artillery pice emerging from one of the local gun works.
The area has undergone massive change, and the " Shambles"abatoires are long gone, along with many of the pubs.
A Stones house for years, wherever its supplies come from nowadays, it is not from Rutland Road
