The interesting shape and dominating sign made the Bell a landmark in Fitzalan Square. The Classic Cinema stood next door.
For years the bell served first Gilmour's and later Tetley beers. Its distinctive "door at each end" ground floor may have disappeared, but otherwise the building remains as it was built. It now houses a cut price goods shop.
