This area of Sheffield was almost totally demolished during the early 1960s. The original road system disappeared from the maps. The multitude of cobbled streets with their tiny street corner pubs were obliterated and replaced by high rise blocks and large modern pubs. The old Bathfield on Powell Street was one of those that were bulldozed.
The current Bathfield was opened in 1965 to serve the local community. It is also close enough to the university to attract the odd student or two.
