Angel Inn. Button Lane

The Crown & Anchor was built in 1825, changing its name to the Angel Inn at the turn of the last century. There was a large yard to the rear of the pub and when the circus was in town the yard was used to house them.

The lage archway had to be used for access to all parts of the inn, as no entrances were provided in the frontage. Once a large inn, in later years Robert Brothers, a famous Sheffield clothing store, moved into a large part of the building.

Tennant's beers were on sale. I am told it was a good place to down a pint of queen's.

The Angel was demolished in 1956 amid general area redevelopment. The site is now occupied by Charter Square.
