The Angel became a pub around 1800. In those days, however, it stood in Chapel Street and was called the Bull. The name was changed in 1862.
In 1925 the road was widened and the Angel was demolished, but the licence and name were transfered to a large private dwelling called Prospest House. The old house is now much extended and hides behind a brick frontage.
In the early years of the last century Trusswell's beer was sold, but in 1955 they were taken over by Hope and Anchor Breweries. Oddly Hope and Anchor did not produce much draught beer and obtained supplies from Mansfield, Tetley and others. They too were taken over by Bass Charrington in 1963.
