The Amberley was a large 3 storey hotel that opened in 1861. Although it was primarily a residential hotel there were several bars that were open to non residents. In fact by the 1960s it ceased letting rooms altogether and concentrated on the drinks trade.
The pub sold John Smith's beers and also had a large concert room where live music was available several nights per week.
The Amberley closed in 1970.
