For much of its life the Alma was an unremarkable Stones pub. The name derives from a battle during the Crimean War. The battle in 1854 was won by the British and led to a spate of pubs of this name.
It isalso an indication of when the pub opened. The Great Sheffield Flood of 1864 caused devastation to all the area around Neepsend, and the pubs proximity to the river would indicate that it was badly affected.
Of course the pub was closed and then reincarnated as The Fat Cat, Sheffield's first real ale pub.
No Juke box no music, just good food and particularly good beer. The pub now has its own brewery and is a popular destination for real ale fans.
