This old Stones pub was built in 1830. It was damaged in the first air raid on Sheffield when a bomb dropped from a Zeppelin fell nearby. There is still a plaque in the wall of the nearby Baltic Works to commemorate this event.
Inside there was an inner sanctum, a room where you had to knock to gain admission. You knocked on the door, and a small window in the door opened. If your face fitted you were in. I never made it.
The pubwas demolished in the 1970s and became a secondhand car lot. The front steps are all that remain.
